Old Novus Opiate Rules
[ Player Rules ][ GM Rules ][ Color War Rules ][ Tournament Rules ][ Housing ]
Rules:

Please read this section to keep informed of what is and what isn't allowed. Also listed here are the prizes for Color War and Tournaments. The pricing for decorations and what you get for your money is listed in decorations.

We urge all players to use their own common sense in their actions. If you know something you are doing is obviously wrong (bug exploiting etc.) then just don't do it and report to a GM.

We will try our hardest not to have any wipes. But in cases where it is inevitable, we cannot guarantee no wiping. We keep many backups of world saves in case something goes amiss. So far we have NEVER had a wipe.

Admins Reserve the right to kick/ban/jail you for any reason they see fit. We are not unreasonable people, so don't do anything blatantly stupid and you will be fine.

The tiered system for offenses is as follows... read player rules for certain instances to where this tier chart does not apply.

Offense Jailtime
1 1 hour
2 24 hours
3 1 week
4 2 week ban
(With approval by Admin Only)

Player Rules [ last update: 09 - 13 - 2009 ]

Bug Exploiting - Don't do it! report bugs to a GM immediately.

Looting - If you die to a monster or a player, then your corpse becomes free reign to loot. Looting blue bodies will get you flagged and guardkilled. If you attack a person in town and then you are guard killed, the your body is free to loot (be VERY careful about this...bodies that are grey are not always criminal grey and can get you killed if looted). Do not page a GM, we will not answer. There will be no looting in Tourny areas.

Guards - Guards are insta-kill. The criminal flag to others than who attacked you will last two minutes; however, the flag to the person you attacked will last over 20 minutes. Be cautious when entering back into town and the person you attacked is there...they will be able to call guards and kill you.

Harassment - No harassment of other players or GMs will be tolerated. If you wish to insult someone, think of a way to do so in a creative manner. Saying "f&#$ you @$#hole" just makes you look lame. Show some creativity and thought in your insults. If someone is stalking and harassing you, you may page a GM about this. Please be able to prove that they did. We have access to logs and can tell if you are lying.

Blocking Telepads and Ankhs - There will be no blocking of telepads. Anyone seen trying to block a telepad or ankh will be jailed for 1 day.

Provocation - There will be NO provocation in town. Anyone caught will spend at least one day in jail if not more. This will not be tolerated. Provocation in town is a known bug/exploit. Do NOT use it. (Currently disabled)

Paging GMs - Do NOT repeatedly page a GM about any issue. Do not include insults or profanity in your pages. Do not abuse the paging system. GMs are not your insta-res or taxi service, and they also will not give you stats, items, or help you out in any way. GMs will not teleport you anywhere unless you are stuck. Do not repeatedly page. A GM will get to you as soon as possible. If you don't abide by these terms, a staff member has the right to jail you.

Spamming - Do not spam! Spamming is hated by everyone, and can get you killed very quickly. This includes alchemist activities near the bank. We all know it's convenient, but it's also a quick way to get you jailed.

Item dying/renaming - Item dying/renaming is not to be paged for, so don't even ask.

Stats/Skills - A GM will not replace your stats/skills/items. If you experience stat/skill loss, please email: adminkix@oldnovusopiate.com
We will look through a previous worldfile to verify your skill/stat loss. If you page falsely for this kind of problem, you will be banned (by Admin). We do not replace items whatsoever. Know this before playing here, don't complain about it later.

We will not newbie your keys! The danger of carrying your keys around and getting looted is all part of the game. We can provide a re-keying service, but if you constantly lose your keys (more than twice a week) this will be charged for 5,000gp per re-key after the 2nd time you are re-keyed. (Keys are newbied for now)

Macroing - Macroing is allowed within reason. Don't macro in public and use common sense when macroing (ie dont abuse bugs when macroing)

Cheatmacroing - Cheatmacroing is resource macroing. Do not auto-mine or any type of resource gathering. if caught you backpack will be deleted. And you will be jailed for 1 week. Just dont do it.

Player Killing - Player killing is allowed on this shard. PvP is a major part of UO, and 80% of players play UO only for this experience. Please do not to attack weak or newby players without provocation. Don't trash talk victims. Have fun but don't make life too hard for others... =P Do not attack people new to the shard. If you cause others to leave our shard with your stupidity you will be jailed. There is to be no PvP fighting/looting in Trinsic, Vesper, or the arena waiting area.

Decoration - Please go to the link above about house decorations.

Vendors - Vendors must be placed at your home or in the vendor keep. Any other vendor found outside those locations will be deleted. Use vendors at your own risk. GMs will not replace a vendor or the items it holds if it is lost. (Currently Unavailable)

Chaos/Order Shields - Taking more than one Chaos/Order shield from the Lord British or Lord Blackthorne Castles will get you jailed. If you are caught with more than one you will be jailed. The warning given to you when you receive the shields is your first warning. You will get no further warnings. If people choose to abuse this service we'll just have to remove the ability to get them altogether. Currently not available.

Duels - If you wish to have a controlled duel with another player, you may page a GM once for this. These player duels are not #1 priority for a GM, and it may take a little while for them to get to you. Please be patient. Duels will be held in the player dueling pit.

Name Change - There will be no more name changes - watch for the name change deed coming soon.

Townfighting - You can attack criminals/orange in town. Killing greens will get you flagged and guardkilled. Attacking karma greys will get you flagged and guardkilled. Looting blue bodies will get you flagged and guardkilled. You may not summon or use offensive magic in town.

Non PvP Areas - Currently, Trinsic, Vesper, and the arena waiting area are non PvP areas. Looting or fighting in these areas will get you jailed, no ifs, no buts.

Stealing - There will be no stealing in the Non PvP areas, which include Trinsic, Vesper and the arena waiting area.

Blocking Telepads - Please do NOT block telepads with stonewalls. It is advisable to always mark runes and use recall.

Hoarding Items - Please DO NOT hoard items. Hoarding items causes server lag and other problems, including bugs that may affect your character and or cause it to be deleted. Items you do not need, THROW AWAY.

Houses - Houses are not 100% safe. From time to time people may find ways to get into your house. USE THE BANK FOR IMPORTANT ITEMS. Items lost from house lootings will not be replaced. Do not kill people macroing in their houses. There will be a 1-2 week jail time for this type of action. Do not page saying you were killed in your house while macroing. No items will be returned. Only page if you are macroing and you see the person that is attacking you.

Item replacement - Items will not be replaced. Know this before playing here. If you do not like this rule, then don't play here. Even items that are illegally looted (i.e. - You were looted in a non-PvP area) will not be replaced.

Complaining - No complaining/whining. "THIS QUEST SUCKS". "YOU STUPID GM". Are very very quick ways to get yourself jailed. If you feel you have been wronged, email adminkix@oldnovusopiate.com and I will look into it. Posting on the messageboard with things such as "YOU GMS SUCK" will get your suggestion ignored and probably your access to the board revoked.

Messageboard - Post suggestions on the suggestions board. Email complaints/concerns to adminkix@oldnovusopiate.com. DO NOT under ANY circumstances start posting unsubstantiated complaints on ANY of the boards. If you feel something should be changed, post a suggestion to the suggestion board. Public complaints and attacking of Staff on the messageboard will not be tolerated.

Contraband Items - all items that cannot be created or found by players on monsters are CONTRABAND. This means they are illegal and you will have them removed, you jailed for possession. Items such as: +90 1 hit kill bows, color wars newbied armor/bows, GM Robes, British/Blackthorne Robes, etc. I think most people have enough common sense to know what is contraband and what is not, either page for the items to be removed or trash them yourself.

Impersonating Staff - impersonating staff in any way whatsoever, or pretending you are staff or have access to staff privileges will get you banned and or jailed. DO NOT pretend you are staff, you will regret it. This is in UO and on IRC/ICQ/Messageboard.

GM Rules

Player Handling - GMs must always be helpful and courteous when answering pages, even if the player is being an ass. If you are in a bad mood or the player is getting too much for you (and you are losing your temper), leave the area.

Quests - GMs must clear quests with an Admin before proceeding. The guidelines for quest creation will soon be available.

Banning - GMs are not allowed to ban (/kick) any player. Only Admins have this privilege. *Note - GMs can ask Admins to ban an account over ICQ, IRC, etc. and then ban (/kick) the player.

GM Intervention - GMs are to remain invisible at all times except when answering a page. Even then, if the page is not about being stuck, stay invisible for 1-2minutes at the persons location to observe their problem before engaging the player. This means you answer the page, then leave. Don't hang around etc. It's better to have someone say you are doing a bad job, than have someone saying you are doing "too good" a job for certain people.

Items - GMs are not allowed to sell items to players. GMs are not allowed to rename or color any item on the server. If a GM wishes to add an item to the server (other than a replacement and tourney prizes), that person must get permission from an Admin. (ie - decorating a section of town)

Testing - If a GM needs to test something, see if another GM or Counselor is on to test this with them. Please try not to test things with players, as this can be seen as player favoring.

Spawns/NPCs - GMs must not create monster/npc spawns for players. They must get permission from an Admin before creating spawns.

Going to/Summoning - GMs and Counselors may not go to players unless they have paged or you have an extremely valid reason (suspect they are cheating or other valid problem you must sort out). Generally teleporting to someone looking through their house and pack for no real reason is not to be done.

Sending players - GMs and Counselors may not send players anywhere. Let people walk. It's good exercise.

Tournament Rules

Tournaments are usually held once per day, 2 maximum, and some time during peak hours (7:30pm EST to 2:30am EST weekends, 6:30pm EST to 11:30pm EST weekdays)
Anyone is welcome to tournaments. A tournament is held, a broadcast every 2 minutes for a 15minutes before the tournament starts will be made. Telepads to the dueling pit are in the telepad room, and these are accessible from every major town/dungeon.
There is no fighting/looting outside the fighting pit. The area outside the fighting pit is a safety zone but casting spells still causes spam, if you are caught, you will be warned, then jailed for the duration of the tournament.
Once a fight has commenced, there will be no talking from those outside the pit, if you do excessively spam, you can be jailed for the duration of the tournament after 1 warning.
No summoning, walling, or spamming during the fight (inside the pit)
There is a 1minute 30second timer on 1on1 championship fights. After the time is up, there will be no more healing (magic, band aid, or potion). Anyone who heals after the 1minute 30 second timer will be disqualified and their opponent declared winner.
Fights can be magic or non magic. This must be decided upon by the participants.
Winners will be teleported to either of the winners viewing areas, and losers to either of the losers viewing areas.
Tournaments work in a knockout fashion. To advance to the next round, you must have won in the previous round. It can continue for as many rounds as needed, until an overall champion can be found.
After the 1on1 championship tournaments, a free for all fight is run. In this, all participants start with their backs to walls, and then fight. There is no teaming up in this, if several people organize teaming up they will be disqualified.
After the FFA is run, a team match is organized. This is started with a Black and a White team. There are dye tubs provided on either side of the arena and members of each team must go to their respective sides of the arena. Then a fight commences. Normal rules apply, ie; no summoning, no walling, no exploits etc. There will be as many rounds run as there is demand for, but a minimum of 4 people per team is required for this. Housing

It is YOUR responsibility to keep your key from being stolen or lost. We are not responsible for lootings. If you value something, keep it in your bank.

Houses are bought from Architects within the game. GMs will only redeed a placed house if the house contains an ownership sign. This is from all of those people trying to redeed/rekey someone elses house. No older house will be rekeyed or redeeded.

Decorations by GMs are no longer being done. We have made add-ons (e.g. - forge, anvil, etc.) that are sold on vendors. Use these deeds to decorate
